Azurite is a soft, deep blue copper mineral produced by weathering of copper ore deposits. When Azurite crystals grow between layers of kaolin clay, growing out laterally, the mineral is compressed by the clay; and often forms a "sun" or star shape. They are found in a place so inhospitable, that it can only be worked for about 3 months during the winter when it is cool enough.
